A Fully Remodeled Hamburg Kitchen With A Whole New Layout

by Brendan // October 15, 2025

This kitchen in Hamburg NY was built originally by the homeowners, but after years of living there it was time to make the space beautiful and functional.

The original layout had a separated dining room off of a kitchen that was too small for the house. An angled kitchen island wasted some valuable space and all of the laminate flooring and carpets were ready to be torn out.

The renovation plan:

  • Remove the dining room wall
  • Extend the kitchen and install a new island and pantry
  • Rearrange the layout with custom cabinets and countertops
  • New paint, trim, doors and floors on the first floor
  • Update the bathroom with paneling and wallpaper
  • Gut the laundry room to install tile floor and cabinetry

Once the dividing wall was removed and a new beam installed, the kitchen could extend into the old dining room to make a larger and more functional kitchen.

This allowed an 8ft long island (that comfortably seats four) to fit in the space between the kitchen and living room with the sink overlooking the back patio.

All of the cabinetry was designed and built by Westgate Furniture Company

The new kitchen layout with a big island

We removed a front hall closet and some unnecessary framing that made the old dining room (now kitchen) feel closed off from the front door.

Now when you walk in you see a beautiful dining area in front of the open kitchen. Beyond the island is the living room to one side and the totally renovated laundry room to the other.

Three appliance garages sit on the countertops and a corner pantry with roll-out shelves give the kitchen lots of clutter free storage.

Some of our favorite kitchen features in this build

Our clients made some beautiful selections from the wicker island pendant lights to the dark blue/green colored cabinets that all came together so nicely.

A few feature highlights:

  • Pull out microwave drawer
  • A coffee appliance garage with a drawer for K-cups
  • Cabinet panel for the dishwasher
  • Floating shelves and laundry butcherblock that match the hardwoods
  • Zellige tile backsplash
  • A closet style cabinet in the laundry room for coats and shoes

New quartz countertops were installed by Empire Granite.

Laundry room makeover

As with many kitchen projects, this remodel ended up touching almost everything on the first floor including the laundry room just off the kitchen.

We replaced the old door with a pocket door and installed new cabinetry and shelving that matches the kitchen island.

Old laminate flooring was replaced with marble-look porcelain tiles but the star of the show is the bird patterned wallpaper accent wall.

Trim, paint, hardwoods and a bathroom refresh

New engineered white oak flooring was installed throughout the whole first floor (including the half bath) and the stairs got new treads and risers to match.

The last area on the first floor that hadn't been touched was the half bath off the kitchen. By replacing the floors we were already reinstalling a new toilet and vanity so the update was completed with beadboard paneling and a bold floral print wallpaper.

A fresh coat of paint went on all of the walls and ceilings carrying on into the upstairs hallway and new 5 inch baseboards were installed over all of the new flooring.

This was one of our favorite projects to date, thank you so much to our awesome clients!
